Champions Are Readers

Last month, our chapter participated in Champions Are Readers or CAR for short. CAR is our nationwide philanthropy where we are fortunate enough to raise money for literacy while being hands-on. Our members were allowed to donate their time to two local elementary schools, Marlatt and Woodrow Wilson. The classrooms we volunteered in ranged from kindergarten all the way up to 5th grade. This gave our members a chance to see how each grade developed and their different reading levels!

At the end of the month of February, Kansas Beta Pi Phi donated over 40 hours of time at these two local schools. Our passion for CAR and for children's literacy allowed us to fully enjoy this experience. We are so thankful to be able to have such a hands-on philanthropy. If we have sparked a love for reading in at least one child then our time volunteering will have been well worth it. Champions are Readers is definitely the most hands on philanthropy that Pi Phi takes part in, and it has been a successful program with a very positive outcome.
